George Allen, National Joke

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Our Senate race seems to have become a national joke as shown by this George Allen insult generator. Each week brings something new and bizarre to the campaign. This week it is which candidate used the n-word and when. Both seemed to have used the word in the ‘70s and as Scotty and several articles […]

Bad Case of Strep Throat

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Caroline is on her fourth day home from school. She came home Monday afternoon and flopped down on the couch. When she didn’t move for a couple of hours I checked her temperature and it was 102. She spent all of Tuesday in bed so by that afternoon I decided it must be more than […]

Diamond Find

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

When Caitlin, John, and I drove through Arkansas a couple of summers ago we stopped at the Crater of Diamonds State Park and spent about an hour digging. Perhaps we should have stayed longer and then we could have found the 6.35 caret diamond that was unearthed on Saturday.

Good Job on the Homework

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Caitlin came home and reported I did a good job on her quilt square homework. Always nice to ace the homework even if it isn’t actually yours to do. I should give her some credit: she drew the quilt square and gave the oral presentation on her family history. My part of it was summarizing […]

Softball Sunday

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Until we tried it I always thought of sports travel teams as too competitive and too time consuming. Well, they do seem time consuming as Scotty and Caitlin left the house yesterday at 10:30 and returned about 5:30 and this was just for a “regular” set of Sunday games and not a tournament. Caroline also […]

Defensively Minded

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

Every once in awhile John finally seems to be hitting his stride in soccer. Saturday was one of those days. He had an amazing quarter at fullback where he was always in the right place making the right play. He came off the field convinced that all he wants to play from now on is […]

Sports Saturday

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

Like families all over America, Saturday was a full day of sports for us. John’s soccer was at 10:00 followed by Caitlin’s softball game at noon. Plus I got a bonus game in because I met up with my friend Maureen from college who was at a local soccer field watching her daughter play. The […]

First Week of the Fall Season

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Taking us through the new fall season day by day of the TV week is guest blogger Scotty. There is no mention of Sunday in this because that was a sad evening of football.
Monday:
Prison Break: A- The supporting cast is really strong, and although unbelievable, great emotional interest.
Christine: B- […]

Virginia Senate Race

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

The Virginia senate race has hit another non-issue. This time it is the question of George Allen’s mother’s childhood religion. Peggy Fox, a local reporter, asked Allen in a debate to explain his mother’s religious background. Apparently she was raised Jewish but kept this from her husband and children until fairly recently. Although Allen got […]

My Hero, John Warner

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Yes, that is John not Mark Warner (although I’m very fond of Mark too). McCain’s got a lot of press about leading the fight against Bush and his torture plan, but John Warner has been quietly working long and hard to stop Bush from pushing through legislation that would reinterpret a Geneva Conventions rule […]
