The economic indicator called “house maintenance in Annie’s neighborhood” has ticked up this week. Two houses got new paint jobs, two got new roofs, and several have had trees taken down by real tree companies, not the pickup truck-knock on the door guys.

We moved the new phone books directly from the front steps to the recycling bin. Usually they make a stop in the back closet where they just sit there untouched until the next set comes in, but not this year.
